Welcome to Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store. Behind the bright yellow fence and within this big yellow barn, is a Wonka-esque world of candies, sodas, games and goodies!
A.k.a. Jim’s Apple Farm, this iconic barn is truly an oasis along Highway 169 on the way to Mankato. With no social media content managed by them, no website and not even a phone number, this wonderland is discovered the old-fashioned way – by word of mouth or simple curiosity of learning what’s inside that huge yellow barn with fantastical signage along the highway where the parking lot is always full?!?
Following a couple of bad storms that damaged the Wagner Family apple harvests nearly ten years ago, the candy store was born – and now is even larger than the orchards ever were.
Thanks to a series of additions, Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store is now more than a football field long, filled with more than 3,000 varieties of candy, 6,000 jigsaw puzzle designs and a vast assortment of regional sodas, jerkies and salsas — plus A-mazing homemade pies baked fresh daily and sold warm.
This is definitely one of my favorites places to go in search of retro candies from my childhood (can you say Zotz, PopRocks and Rain-Blo gum?!), fun kitschy party favors and the makings for a great gift basket and stock stuffers. It’s always a gem to share with my non-Minnesota guests and they keep asking to go back!
Note: Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store is open seasonally, from July through November, seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Look for the yellow fencing and barn along Minnesota Highway 169 between Jordan and Belle Plaine. And in the old-fashioned way, no credit cards are accepted but there is an ATM on-site.
